Journal's inclusion in the RSCI

The Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) is an abstract database where scientists from the CIS publish all their research materials. Until recently, it was quite easy to get into the list of the RSCI journals. This service indexed most of the publications that were included in it. But many publishing houses ignored the rules of indexing that meant an obligatory peer review. There appeared many journals that did not meet the criteria of this database, but wanted nothing but to improve bibliographic indicators. In this regard, the RSCI introduced more stringent rules, and many journals were excluded from this database.

Since 2015, the RSCI together with Thomson Reuters Media Company (now it is called Clarivate Analytics) implemented The Russian Science Citation Index Project. Its task is to create an authoritative database of works from all over the CIS on the resource of Web of Science Core Collection and Scopus. Thereby, it will be possible to conduct analytical research of the activity of scientists and organizations, to calculate complex scientometric indicators and determine an accurate evaluation of the efficiency of scientists, research teams and organizations.  Consequently, the attitude and approach to peer review has cardinally changed  towards the journals that want to get into the RSCI lists. Gradually, the journals which cannot meet the international standards will be removed from this abstract base. The selection of journals is based on the expert findings of leading scientists. And it will be much more difficult to get there.

The cooperation of the RSCI with Web of Science and Scopus opened to foreign subscribers the access to the Russian database and improved the indexing of scientific journals among the humanities and social sciences.

Every year there is conducted a monitoring of the journals which are in the lists of the RSCI. More than 3000 periodicals have already been excluded from the database of the Russian Science Citation Index due to the fact that they do not meet the high requirements and international standards. Such measures complicate the enrollment of many journals in the lists of this large platform. Therefore, before applying one should carefully check one's articles and the availability of unique and innovative information in them. The RSCI intends to closely monitor and analyze the publication activity of all journals which are included in the lists of this scientometric database.
